Questions

How many grams is 1 cup?

It depends on the ingredient. One US cup holds 236.6 ml, so 1 cup of water weighs about 237 g, but 1 cup of all-purpose flour weighs 120 g and 1 cup of granulated sugar 198 g.

Why does a cup of flour weigh less than a cup of sugar?

A cup measures volume, not weight. Flour is light and full of air; sugar crystals are dense and pack tightly. The same cup holds 120 g of flour but 198 g of sugar.

Is a US cup the same as a metric cup?

Almost. A US cup is 236.6 ml and a metric cup (used in Australia, New Zealand and Canada) is 250 ml, about 6% more. The numbers on this page are for US cups.

How many tablespoons and teaspoons are in a cup?

One US cup is 16 tablespoons or 48 teaspoons. One tablespoon is 3 teaspoons, about 14.8 ml. Pick tablespoons or teaspoons in the converter to get grams for spoon amounts.

How many grams is a stick of butter?

One US stick of butter is 113 g. That is 1/2 cup, 8 tablespoons or 4 ounces.
