Save recipes from YouTube

A Watch Later list is not a cookbook. Foodie turns a YouTube cooking video into a recipe you can follow at the stove, without pausing and rewinding.

How it works

How to save a YouTube recipe in Foodie

  1. 01

    Copy the video link

Under the video, tap Share, then Copy link. If Foodie is in your share sheet, you can pick it there instead. Regular videos and Shorts both work.

  2. 02

    Tap Import Recipe

Open Foodie, tap Import Recipe and paste the link on the URL tab. Shared links arrive already filled in.

  3. 03

    Check and cook

Foodie writes out the ingredients and steps, keeps the thumbnail and the channel name, and links back to the video. Scale the servings and send the ingredients to your grocery list.

Good to know

What Foodie reads

Foodie reads the video's title and description, where most cooking channels list the ingredients and method. It does not listen to the video, so a recipe that is only spoken is not picked up.

The description links to a website

Many channels put the full written recipe on their own site. Import that page instead: it usually has exact amounts and every step.

The recipe is only in the video

Pause on the frame that shows the ingredients, take a screenshot, and use the Image tab. Or type the recipe out and paste it on the Text tab.

The description has no recipe

Foodie then drafts a recipe from the video title. It is a starting point, so check it against the video before you cook.

YouTube recipes: questions

Does Foodie work with YouTube Shorts?

Yes. Shorts links work the same way as regular video links.

Does Foodie transcribe the video?

No. Foodie reads the title and description. If the recipe is only spoken, use a screenshot on the Image tab or paste the recipe as text.

Does Foodie credit the YouTube channel?

Yes. The channel is saved as the author, and the recipe keeps the link to the video so you can watch it again.

Is saving YouTube recipes free?

Yes. The free plan includes 3 recipe imports every 7 days. Foodie Premium removes the limit.
