Questions
How do I double a recipe?
Multiply every ingredient by 2. In the scaler above, set the recipe's servings and the servings you want to double that number, and each amount is scaled for you.
How do I halve a recipe?
Divide every amount by 2. Half of 1 egg is awkward. Beat the egg and use about 2 tablespoons, or round to the nearest whole egg.
Do baking times change when you scale a recipe?
Often, yes. A double batch in the same pan is deeper, so it bakes longer at a slightly lower temperature. A half batch in a smaller pan bakes faster, so start checking early. Spices and salt are best scaled by 3/4 when you double, then adjusted by taste.
Does it work with metric amounts?
Yes. It scales any number at the start of a line, so 250 g flour or 2 dl milk work like 2 cups flour. Units are left as you typed them.
